Public Library, Minicoy

This Library was established in the year 1959 as Reading Room Cum Library Minicoy under the Department of Education, U.T. of Lakshadweep. When the Social Welfare Department of Lakshadweep started as a separate Department, the Reading Room Cum Library Minicoy went under the Social Welfare Department of Lakshadweep. Later the Reading Room Cum Library Minicoy was renamed as the Public Library, Minicoy Island. When the Panchyath Raj system introduced in Lakshadweep, again the Public Library Minicoy came under the District Panchyat, U.T. of Lakshadweep. The books and other items needed for the library are supplied by the Department of Social Justice Empowerment & Culture, U.T. of Lakshadweep.
Aim and Objectives:
The primary purposes of the Public Library are to provide resources and services in a variety of media to meet the needs of individuals and froups for education, information and personal development includingt recreation and leisure.
Achievements:
For the last three years the department had conducted various programmes like reading essay competition, quiz painting, pencile drawing etc had been conducted for students, youths, and senior citizens. The winneres were also awarded with prizes for the competitions .
