LAKSHADWEEP PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, SUB DIVISION, MINICOY
HISTORY:-
The Lakshadweep Public Works Department came in existence as a single sub division at Kavaratti Island during 1959 and later developed to a Division. The posts of Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers were handled by the deputation employee from CPWD. The system of deputation continued up to 1973. In 1973 the LPWD had its own junior Engineers and Assistant Engineers to handle the posts. But availing services of an Executive Engineers continued till 1978. In 1978 the Division became a permanent one and had its own Executive Engineer. LPWD Sub division, Minicoy comes under the LPWD Division, Officer, Kochi.
Aim and Objectives:
Design, construction and maintenance of Govt. residential and non-residential buildings, roads. Maintenance and running of water supply system and Water quality analysis
All the constructions activities of the Lakshadweep Administration and other central government organizations such as IB, Meteorological Dept. etc are under taken by LPWD sub division at Minicoy.
ALLOTMENT OF GOVT. QUARTER/TRANSIT ACCOMODATION:
The government quarters is allotted to the Government employees who are working in Minicoy island by the Local Accommodation Board (LAB) under the Central Accommodation Board (CAB). The Junior Engineer, LPWD is the member secretary of LAB, Minicoy.
LTTD Plant:
Administration has established one lakh litre per day capacity Low Temperature Desalination Plant(LTTD Plant) in Minicoy under this sub division.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS:
Completed and inaugurated of Eastern side road
Completed the maintenance work of Operation Theatre at Govt. Hospital.
Completed the construction work of Multipurpose and evacuation center.
Completed the Cement Concrete Road from Charbathy to Kendiparty.
Completed the work of Passenger Hall at Minicoy.
Completed 4 Nos. Type III and 4 Nos. Type-II quarters for Electricity Department at Minicoy.
Completed 4 Nos. Type III and 4 Nos. Type II quarters for General Pool accommodation.
Completed the work Payward (G+2) for Govt. Hospital, Minicoy.
